Viral video: Usain Bolt joins in the Harlem Shake craze

Jimmy Fallon is doing it with his whole staff. Legions of university students have done it. A squadron of the Norwegian army has done it. Anderson Cooper did it too. And now Usain Bolt has joined the party.

What are we talking about? Why the Harlem Shake of course!

The Harlem Shake craze as we noted earlier, has taken over YouTube with the upload rate of Harlem Shake videos reaching 4,000 per day. As of 15 February about 40,000 Harlem Shake videos had been uploaded, totalling 175 million views.

How does the Harlem Shake work?

Usually, a video begins with one person (often helmeted or masked) dancing to Bauer’s Harlem Shake song alone for 15 seconds, surrounded by other people not paying attention or unaware of the dancing individual. When the bass drops, the video switches to the entire crowd doing a crazy convulsive dance for the next 15 seconds.

Usain Bolt is at the bottom right of the screen – breaking into some highly enthusiastic and really weird dance moves. But he sure looks like he’s having a great time!

The success of the videos was in part attributed to the anticipation of the breakout moment and short length, making them very accessible to watch.

Passenger Of Small Airplane Captures Crash Landing In Field On Cellphone Camera

Jonathan Fielding took a birthday flight with his wife, which was coincidentally her first time flying, his mother in-law, and his baby son on a small propeller plane over beautiful Utah.

Terrifyingly, they were informed by the pilot that the carburetor had iced over, and the propeller was out of commission. They would have to crash land.

Being that this is 2013, Jonathon, of course, whipped out his cellphone camera to capture the drama. Even though the pilot was experienced with powerless landings in the field, the snow caused the plane to flip on landing.

Thankfully, they all survived save for a few scratches and bruises, and now the cellphone footage has gone viralviral, amassing over a quarter million views in just a week.

First viral video of 2013: The Harlem Shake

Gangnam Style was the viral video of 2012 but the internet never sleeps. Six weeks into the new year, a new viral video sensation is taking over.
It’s called the Harlem Shake and as with all viral videos, viewers are usually left scratching their heads trying to figure out what it was that they’ve just seen.

The 30-second video is formulaic – a lone, masked dancer gyrates amidst a few disinterested people. Halfway through the video, the music ratchets up a notch and suddenly the screen is filled with crazy revellers.

The original video was published on February 2 and has already garnered 3.7-million views.

It was devised by a group of teenaged longboarders from Australia’s Sunshine Coast, who were looking for something to do during a rainy spell.

The Harlem Shake is actually a dance, dating back to the early 2000s. But it rarely features in the videos currently doing the rounds. It takes its name from the backing music, which is by Brooklyn-based dance music producer Baauer.

There are now scores of copycat versions featuring firefighters, an endearing father-son duo, the staff of entertainment website IGN, and rapper T Pain.

The fad picked up locally in recent days after a Cape Town based advertising agency the Jupiter Drawing Room made a version and dared its competitors to “out-shake” them.

Of course, the M&G Online had to have its own take.

‘Les Miz’ Meets ‘Gangnam Style,’ and YouTube Cheers

SEOUL, South Korea — The “Gangnam Style” video has spawned seemingly endless remakes; there are even sites that allow viewers to insert photos of themselves onto the animated bodies of people performing the famous horse dance.
Now the viral video has inspired another South Korean blockbuster, a parody of the movie musical “Les Misérables” featuring members of the air force. After just five days on YouTube, the video had been viewed almost three million times. (It probably did not hurt that one of the stars of the Hollywood movie,Russell Crowe, reposted a tweet with a link to the video.)

The video, “Les Militaribles,” opens by spoofing the dramatic first scene of the movie version of Victor Hugo’s epic novel, set in a jail where men live under the tyranny of the guards.

Jobless Frenchman's Online CV goes viral!

Creativity trumps unemployment and a bad economy – at least for one jobless Frenchman, whose online CV went viral after he created a mock Amazon.com webpage and offered himself for sale based on his skills as a web product manager. Parisian Philippe Dubost caused an internet sensation by creating an Amazon-like webpage that invited prospective employers to bid for him. The price has been scratched out from $999,999, encouraging employers to offer their own salary options. The fake page urges buyers to "order soon", as there is "only one left in stock". The page includes a profile picture, skills and experience. It also has personal information like his height, languages spoken, and his best marathon time.

By clicking to add Dubost to your ‘cart’, his contact information pops up. He also links his resume to his blog. Under ‘shipping’ he indicated, “This item is available for shipping anywhere in the world!” demonstrating his willingness to travel. Dubost even developed a “frequently bought together” section and included running shoes (sold on Amazon) and airline tickets. "I wanted to do something fun. Résumés are not fun. They're not fun to write, not fun to read", Dubost told The Independent. "I thought it would be fun to build a small web product that would feel a little bit like a game you could interact with, like those baby toys where every button you push makes a different noise."

After the online CV went viral, around 100 employers had offered various job opportunities, Dubost says.
"So many awesome companies, projects, entrepreneurs, I'm starting to feel like a spoilt kid with too many toys," Dubost added. "And yes, among those there are indeed a few opportunities that match what I'm looking for and that I'm going to pursue." Unprecedented unemployment levels are putting a big strain on the young professionals to innovate traditional methods of job search. Earlier in January, the UK’s Adam Pacitti, 24, spent his last $800 on a billboard featuring his picture and a message “please give me a job”. In France, the number of jobless has continued to increase in December for the 19th consecutive month, affecting at least 3 million people, which is a near-15-year high.

Boaters Witness Giant Dolphin Stampede While Whale Watching

Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari takes passengers for a nature watching boat ride off the coast of Dana Point, California. But even Captain Dave admits it isn’t everyday he catches an enormous Dolphin Stampede in action.

So it was great luck that one boat full of passengers were in the right place at the right time to witness a pod of nearly 1,000 dolphins charging some nearby whales.
